Description:
Dolores Kelly (MLA), Stewart Dickson (MLA) and Michael Copeland (MLA) Kindly Invite You to Attend The Irish Peace Centres Symposium
13 December 2011
2.00 – 4.00 pm at Parliament Buildings,
Stormont Room 115
The community and voluntary sector has witnessed an unprecedented change in this difficult economic climate; the challenges to building our post-conflict society remain as strong as ever.
At the Irish Peace Centres Symposium in Parliament Buildings on 13th December, politicians, statutory, voluntary and private sector personnel will meet for an honest and robust discussion on how the peace-building field can survive and thrive. What must we do to build our own futures?
A panel discussion, chaired by Dominic Bryan (Director and Lecturer in Social Anthropology, QUB) will briefly outline some of the successes, challenges and hopes for the future in building our post-conflict society through their consideration of how the learning and challenges of an integrated, consortium approach can inform peace-building in N. Ireland. The CEO’s of Co-operation Ireland (Peter Sheridan, former Assistant Chief Constable) and Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation (John Flood, Interim CEO) along with the Corrymeela Community Leader, Inderjit Bhogal (former President of the Methodist Conference) will reflect on their experiences of working within and delivering cross-border, cross-community peace projects.
The focus of the symposium is to look at 'life beyond funding' - how we can explore new approaches to sustaining peace-building programmes in the future; how we within and beyond the peacebuilding sector can and should work collaboratively to achieve these aims; identify key steps politicians, the public, voluntary and private sectors need to take to make cohesion sharing and integration a reality.
It is an opportunity for us to create networks that will allow us to face the challenges ahead.
