ARMOY VISITORS FOLLOW THE BIKE MEN
13 May 2008
Armoy in County Antrim is synonymous with the sport of motorcycle road racing. Armoy Community Association has capitalized on the worldwide interest in the sport and the many visitors who make their way to the village to honour local hero and former world champion, the late Joey Dunlop, by launching an imaginative multi-media tourist information facility.
With part-finance from the European Union through the Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, managed for the SEUPB by the Northern Ireland Rural Development Council (RDC), the Association has set up The Armoy Armada, which tells the story of a group of exceptional young riders, who were the subject of a famous 1970s television documentary, ‘Road Racers’.
Award winning digital media company Awakin was commissioned to engage the community in creating the visual interpretation, which forms the basis of the digital media trail. Visitors can hire a device in the village or can download the programme free of charge onto an i-pod or i-phone.
