INTERREG IVC Interregional

The INTERREG IVC Programme is part of the European Territorial Co-operation Objective of the Structural Fund policies for the period 2007-2013. It aims, by means of inter-regional co-operation, to improve the effectiveness of regional development policies and contribute to economic modernisation and increased competitiveness of Europe, by:
- Enabling local and regional actors across the EU to exchange their experiences and knowledge;
- Matching regions less experienced in a certain policy field with more advanced regions; and
- Ensuring the transfer of good practices into Structural Funds mainstream programmes.
The programme is divided into two priorities based on the Lisbon and Gothenburg strategies.
Priority One: Innovation and the Knowledge Economy
- Innovation, Research & technology development
- Entrepreneurship and SMEs
- Information Society
- Employment, Human Resources and Education
Priority Two: Environment and Risk Prevention
- Natural and Technological Risks (including climate change)
- Water Management
- Waste Prevention and Management
- Biodiversity and Natural Heritage (including air quality)
- Energy and Sustainable Transport
- Cultural Heritage and Landscape
There are two types of interventions:
1. Regional Initiative Projects
These are "Classic" inter-regional co-operation networks or projects which are aimed at exchange of experiences and the identification, analysis, dissemination and possible transfer of knowledge and good practices. Co-operation can vary in intensity, from networking programmes to intensive joint implementation, to mini-programmes.
2. Capitalisation Projects
Capitalisation projects focus specifically on the transfer of regional development good practices into EU Structural Funds mainstream programmes. One of the expected outcomes is a concrete action plans which should ideally be signed by the respective Managing Authority and the relevant stakeholders in each participating region.
Fast Track projects These are capitalisation projects that are offered additional assistance by the European Commission and must contribute to the “Regions for Economic Change Initiative”.

Eligible Regions

All regions of the EU are eligible to apply to this programme, together with Switzerland and Norway.
Minimum number of countries needed to form a partnership
Partners from at least three countries, from which two have to be EU Member States.
ERDF available
The total ERDF available for this programme is 75% - 85%.
Grant Rate
The total amount of ERDF available is €302 million
Who can apply?
This programme is aimed specifically at local and regional authorities and bodies governed by public law.
Working Language
English is one of the working languages of this programme.
