Atlantic Area Programme

The main goal of the Atlantic Area Programme is to achieve progress on transnational cooperation geared towards cohesive, sustainable and balanced territorial development of the Atlantic Area and its maritime heritage.
To address the challenges in the Atlantic Area, thematic priorities and specific objectives to strengthen cooperation have been identified:
Priority One: Promote transnational entrepreneurial and innovation networks
1.1: Develop knowledge transfers between companies and research centres
1.2: Enhance competitiveness and innovation capacities in maritime economy niches of excellence
1.3: Stimulate economic conversion and diversification by promoting the regional endogenous potential
Priority Two: Protect, secure and enhance the marine and coastal environment sustainably
2.1: Improve maritime safety
2.2: Sustainable management and protection of the resources of marine spaces
2.3: Exploit the renewable energy potential of the marine and coastal environment
2.4: Protect and promote natural spaces, water resources and coastal zones
Priority Three: Improve accessibility and internal links
3.1: Promote interoperability and continuity of existing transport networks, and sea/road/rail/air intermodality
3.2: Promote short-sea shipping and cooperation between ports
Priority Four: Promote transnational synergies in sustainable urban and regional development
4.1: Pool resources and skills in the field of sustainable urban and rural development
4.2: Make cities and regions more influential and attractive through networking
4.3: Conserve and promote Atlantic cultural heritage of transnational interest
Eligible Regions

Whole country of UK , Ireland whole country, Atlantic areas of Spain, France, Portugal and mainland United Kingdom.
Minimum number of countries needed to form a partnership
Two partners from at least two countries, with at least one of these from the Atlantic Area

The total ERDF available for this programme is €104 million
Grant Rate
The total amount of ERDF available is 65%.

Private, public and research sectors can apply to this programme.
Working Language
The working languages of this programme are: English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
