SEUPB - Monitoring Committees

What do the Monitoring Committees do?

A Monitoring Committee is established under European Regulation for both the PEACE IV and INTERREG VA Programmes to monitor the effectiveness and quality of the implementation of their respective programmes. The membership of the Monitoring Committee comprises of representatives of local and regional government, as well as social and economic partners representing business, trade unions, and the voluntary, environmental and equality sectors.   Additionally, the PEACE IV Monitoring Committee includes an independent expert on peace and reconciliation. The committee fulfils a number of key responsibilities:

  • It must approve the project selection criteria to be used in the programme;
  • It must review progress toward achieving the targets of the programme and examine the results of implementation;
  • It will consider and approve formal reports submitted to the European Commission, including Annual Reports on Implementation;
  • It may propose amendments to the Cooperation Programme, the document approved by the European Commission which establishes the programme strategy and priorities; and
  • It will consider and approve any proposal to amend the Commission decision which approved the programme.

The Monitoring Committee meets at least twice a year. Meetings are held in all parts of the area eligible to receive funding (i.e. Northern Ireland, the six Border Counties of Ireland and, in the case of INTERREG VA, Western Scotland).
